The impact of suicide? It depends on how pretty you are, your race and your gender

A depressing post for today.

The suicide of a young, middle class girl who happens to have a salacious story to tell, and who is judged to be pretty? The whole world responds sanctimoniously.

The suicide of a young boy who belongs to a racial minority? The suicide of many males in all parts of society? Hardly a mention in comparison.

The levels of racism and gender bias in these suicide cases astound me.

The fact that the Amanda Todd story is now one of wasted opportunity, shamelessly exploited by the media for easy headlines, is tragic, particularly as those involved have chosen to ignore the real core issues.

We have a duty to care about everyone in the world. Not just the pretty ones.
